Christmas fashion 2020: Party outfit or a Christmas sweater?

Christmas fashion 2020: Party outfit or a Christmas sweater?

This Christmas, everything is going to be a little different than we’re used to. No big parties or family gatherings, not going out to dinner, for some families, it’s going to be a big change. Usually, many people wear fancy and glittery outfits at Christmas, but are you also going to do that when your Christmas is spend at home with a smaller group? Here’s all about Christmas fashion: should you be dressing up or dressing down in 2020?

The first thing to consider is what you would normally do with Christmas. Are you the type of person that sits around the Christmas tree with your entire family to open presents in your ugly Christmas sweater, or would you go to big, lavish Christmas parties in your fanciest dress?

The amount of people present shouldn’t affect what you like the best. You can still have a small dinner with your roommates or direct family and you can still wear your Christmas sweater or fancy dress! Especially when you also dress up the table/house in the same style, it won’t feel out of place at all!

Why go for fancy?

So let’s start with why going for a fancy outfit is a good idea. We’ve all been stuck inside for a long time now. Normally, we move around when we go to work, go to the gym and go to have a drink with friends. Christmas would’ve been a nice time to get out of Corona, but unfortunately that’s still not safe enough. Therefore, we’ll need to make it feel like a different world for a few nights.

Therefore, it’s actually a great idea to make an effort and go all out this year! Put on your heels and slap on some make-up. It’ll boost your self-esteem to look like a million bucks again instead of those jogging pants you’ve been wearing for the past few months. It’ll make Christmas feel special, even this year. In addition, it might be nice for your relationships to see each other dressed-up again. And on top, it’ll hopefully help you to forget all about what’s going on in the outside world at the moment. And if you want some tips to look extra stunning and about the psychology of fashion, go here! Or do you prefer some outfit inspiration? Take a look at this great post of Jenni from I on Image!

Why pull your ugly Christmas sweater out?

However, there’s also a point to be made for a more comfortable style. Because what’s more Christmassy than an ugly Christmas sweater? It might be a lot of fun to see what everyone will wear, or you could even buy sweaters for each other as your first present! Laughter is a great way to come together and relax, since it creates endorphins. Endorphins are the body’s happy hormones and they’re a great way to reduce stress. So, to create more happy hormones, you can make Christmas more fun with games, funny clothes, some funny gifts and maybe a comedy after dinner. Live up the holiday spirit with some mulled wine or hot chocolate, a delicious dinner and good company.

If the weather wasn’t so warm, it’s definitely ugly christmas sweaters with pixelated reindeers and ridiculous baubles dangling from it!

I dressed up for a Christmas and took a picture and it felt good rather than just wearing something else.

I like to be comfy and cosy at Christmas, especially as we will be at home. I have the perfect baggy dress that will allow me to eat ALL of the food!

We have 2 days of Christmas here in the Netherlands. One day I’ll be going fancy and the other I’ll be going very comfortable 🙂 Happy Holidays!

Sounds like you found the right balance 😁 and I’ve been wrecking my brain on which outfits I want to wear, so that’s definitely a great part of the excitement here!

Not going to lie, my husband and I are going to be wearing special Christmas PJs, hahaha! They aren’t ones we’ll sleep in but actually change into for the day as our main vibe will be total relaxation.
