7 ways to take control of your life

7 ways to take control of your life

At times, life is hectic. Life it hard. So no wonder that there are so many studies done, books written and quotes made on how to control life. However, these studies have found some ways to do so, so let’s dive into it!

Planning

Yes, I know, planning AGAIN. I don’t need you to make hugely detailed life schedules, but some preparation will make you able to be flexible when you need to be. Look at me for instance. I wouldn’t be able to keep my blog running if I didn’t have some articles planned in advance. This way, I can take a night of to relax or have a drink with friends if I want to, but I also have time to fix unexpected problems if I need to.

Have a vision

Again, I don’t need you to have a detailed life plan, but it is good to have an idea of where you want to go. I personally love planning out different career paths for myself, because I know there’s not one way I’ll ever be happy. I love blogging, but I also love marketing, sales and consultancy and all these passions deserve their own plans. I don’t know where I’ll end up, but this way I can keep my options open whilst also focussing on them.

Another way I’m focussing on my vision is to have a vision board. You can make a real one, but you can also make one on Pinterest. What kind of house do you want to live in? What car will be on the driveway? How do you want to look? How will your kids look if you want to have them?

All these things will keep you focused. It’s so easy to get tangled into everyday life and lose why you’re working as hard as you do. Your vision board and career paths will keep you on the right track when you’re straying from your way.

Find your people

This one is probably the most important one of all. No one would be anywhere without having a few people to trust with things. It can be someone from your family, your boyfriend, a friend or even a friend from the office. Even better is having multiple so you’re always safe. When I get into things with my boss, I whine about it to my boyfriend, when I have problems with him, I go to my mom and when I need career advice, I go to my colleagues. This way, I can vent without feeling like I need to be careful.

Trust the experts

When you’re in trouble, you might want to take some advice from people who’ve been through it. This can be from a mentor, podcasts, blogs and more. There is no situation that’s unique to you, so chances are someone somewhere shared their story or is willing to do so. You might want to look for these stories and learn from them. Although many people mistake asking for help for weakness, it is really empowering to find people that can guide you and it can give you some sense of safety.

Creativity

Although I just mentioned the benefits of planning, there is nothing like flexibility and the ability to find creative solutions. There will always be things you couldn’t have seen coming and if you’re truly in control, you’ll be able to adapt to the new situation. Creativity and flexibility are therefore super important when you want to stay in control! It’s exactly what ‘survival of the fittest’ is based upon.

Let it go

In the end, you’ll realize you can’t fully control life. You can control your own actions and you can influence your surroundings, but you’ll never truly have control. The sooner you except this, the sooner you’ll let go of the desire to do so. And that will actually help you, since you’ll be focussing more on the right things!

Enjoy life!

Nothing will make you feel like your losing control as negativity. Boredom, stress and all that ‘bad’ stuff can make you feel like you can’t influence your life. So, to avoid that feeling, do things that make you happy! Enjoy the sun, go on holidays, go shopping and spend time with the people you love. It’ll make you feel like everything is going to be alright!

Love this! Although planning and having a vision is so important, it’s also mega crucial to just let things go sometimes and go with the flow 🙂 Sometimes in order to gain more control, you have to let go.

Really great ideas 😊 thank you for sharing. I think a lot of people in this day and age forget who they are and let other people control their lives (me included!) so this is a very important topic to discuss.

Great post and tips! Especially regarding having a vision, it’s so important to have several different interests and hobbies, it keeps life fun and opens new opportunities and paths. I also struggled with blogging for a while because I would write one post per week, now I’m writing several posts at a time and scheduling them so I have more free time. 🤗
