My lazy, work day morning routine
I am the first one to admit: I am not a morning person! Although I adore the feeling of laying under the warm blankets, slowly waking up to the sun coming through my windows, this is often not reality. Most days, I have to go to work, exercise or do other things like housekeeping. In those days, a problem arises: when I can’t wake up slowly, I’ll be horribly grumpy all day long. Therefore, we really need to avoid that situation. That is why I have a very slow ‘going to work’ morning routine, taking about 1.5 hours at least. Keep in mind that I can’t shower in the morning, because of my low blood pressure, so this saves a little bit of time. This takes a while, but I’ve noticed that it is worth waking up that half an hour earlier to get everything I want out of my day.
First, alarm clocks
I have an incomprehensible talent for not noticing the first two alarms, no matter how loud and annoying they are. This is why I have 4 clocks, all 5 minutes apart from each other. This way, I have 15 minutes to wake up. When I have to wake up at seven, I set the alarms at 6.45, 6.50, 6.55 and seven. Since I have a lot of spare time, I often lay in bed for another 15 minutes to check my phone, but only the fun things like Facebook and Youtube video’s, e-mail comes later.
Then, hydration and cleansing!
The absolute first thing I do when I come out of bed is to prepare my liquids: one glass of lemon juice and water, one cup of tea, and sometimes one cup of coffee as well. The water is to wake up to the cold feeling in my mouth and to start up my metabolism. As a tea, I always drink green tea (sometimes with ginger) to get a boost of antioxidants and get some caffeine to start up with. The coffee is only if I am craving it or if I have to be really active right away. I drink a glass of water first and then go to the bathroom to wash my face. I’ll often put on a warm, comfy bathrobe or warm sweater and slippers. Washing my face will wake me up quickly.
Time to fill me up and get ready!
Then, I prepare my breakfast, for instance My favourite breakfast smoothie. I often prep my lunch in one go as well. Then, I eat my breakfast and drink my coffee and tea, while often watching YouTube video’s. This all takes about 45 minutes to an hour (including the extra bedtime). Then, I start of my skincare routine and I put on my make-up. My normal make-up routine takes about 30 minutes. However, it can be longer if I decide or have to go full glam, then it can take about 45 minutes to an hour. In mentioning the 1.5 hours, I kept the 30 minutes in mind. When my make-up is on, I’ll get dressed, brush my teeth and put everything I need in my bag in about 15 to 20 minutes.
I know this all sounds pretty slow, and that is definitely true! I do it, because I feel more ready for the day by waking up just a little bit earlier. For some inspiration to make your own, this was a great article! What is your ‘having to go to work’ morning routine and what is your timeframe to wake up? Please let me know in the comments!
Lots of love,
Lisa
