45 things you can do to relax
Summer’s still far away and with a new year came new tasks and projects, so it’s only natural to feel a little stressed. Therefore, you need to use your free time to calm down, practise some self care and enjoy life. Here’s a list of 45 things you can do to relax!
A good environment sets the mood
- Clean and organise, nothing is as stressful as a cluttered home!
- Divide your home into work spaces and relax places
- Create a corner for you alone, even if it’s just a corner of the couch
- Place blankets and pillows to get cosy easily
- Light some (soy) candles
- Try some essential oils
- Play some relaxing music (classical or jazz for instance)
Hobbies can guide your mind away from stressful things
- Read a good book
- Paint
- Do a course in pottery
- Write a book or poems (or a blog of course)
- Go gaming, from the Sims to Mario Kart to Grand Theft Auto
- Bake or cook something delicious – banana bread is always a good idea!
- Knit yourself a nice blanket or a scarf
- Yoga
- Zumba classes
- Running
- Photography
- Scrapbooking
- Or just plain old Netflix
Or you can deal with the stress
- Write a journal page about what’s bothering you
- Have a scream session in your pillow
- Go boxing
- Scour Google for creative solutions to your problems
- Meditate – you can start here!
- Find yourself a life coach
- Learn how to be more mindful
- Make a planning to prevent these situations in the future
Take care of your body
- Give yourself a warm foot bath
- Or a hot normal bath or shower
- Steam your pores with a hot towel

- Ask someone to give you a back massage
- Give yourself a face massage
- Make yourself a cup of hot tea or cocoa
- Mani – pedi’s
Or go for the big guns
- Plan a holiday or weekend trip, even if it’s just you and your boyfriend in a countryside cottage
- Book a day at a spa
- Get your eyebrows waxed
- Act like it’s already summer with a trip to a tanning bed
- Get a haircut with everything included
- Go to the zoo
- Or a cat cafe and go cuddle!

I love these ideas! I have recently found comfort in cleaning and organising. I recently redid my room and getting organisers, sorting through clothing and getting rid of old things is so therapeutic. Thank you for these tips!

Such a great list! Thanks so much for sharing!

Great tips! I love a lot of these. I just wrote a blog post about separating work spaces and relaxing spaces. Great advice! I also like hobbies and talking a walk in nature for relaxing. Thanks!
Thank you so much! Creating a different work space from the rest of your house is so important psychologically! I’ll check out your post on it soon!
I can’t wait of this third lockdown to be over to book a spa! This is a great list of things – love a self care/relaxing post!
Thank you! I hope it inspires you to make the most of it until we have our freedom back again 😁
These tips are actually so good that I don’t have words for them. Very nicely done. I’m sure people will get inspired by them (I know I am)
Thank you so much, you’re so kind 😁
What a fabulous list. Writing and working on my blog definitely relax me. The time just flies when I do that.
Thank you so much! It’s the same for me, it’s like creating your own world in a website haha.
Loved this list! There are so many hobbies I might be adding to my routine!
Thank you! I hope you find one that works for you. I was actually thinking of picking up painting myself 😊
These are all great choices! I usually relax with a great book and cosy blanket or playing Mario Kart with my sisters and shouting more than needed! I love the idea of a pottery course! Thanks for sharing x
Haha you can never do enough shouting, especially during Mario Kart!
Glad we are not the only ones lol
Lots of really great suggestions here! Thanks for this! Siobhan ♡ | Vegan Babe Life
These are great suggestions. I’ve got a little reading corner where I keep cosy blankets and my book. I love settling down there to relax sometimes.
Thank you! I’d love to have a reading nook like that, I can imagine an environment calms you down in itself.
These are all amazing ideas!! Thanks so much for sharing
All of these are fab ideas, Lisa! I absolutely love baking, watching netflix and having a hot bath to relax. I need to restock on some essential oils and I’m in need of a mani/pedi. Thank you for sharing xx

Thank you! What are your favourite oils to use? And with all the hand washing and disinfectant, I can imagine how your hands might deserve some extra love, same here 😀
Must Have’s always are lavender, peppermint and lemon! I also love eucalyptus, clove and orange 🙂
Oeh sounds great, a lot of my favourites are in this list as well haha! Never tried clove though so I might try that soon as well! Thanks for the tip 😁
There are some fab ideas on here. Oddly enough I do like cleaning when I need to relax as I find it so satisfying.
Tash – A Girl with a View
Thank you and same here! When I wake up, I always start doing the dishes and I have no idea why haha.
Thanks for the great ideas! You have some really good ones here.
Thank you, I hope they’ll help you out sometime!
I struggle to relax so much! I definitely think that dealing with the stress is the perfect way to relax more. I find that when my stress is gone my brain let’s me have some peace thank you for sharing
I think we’re naturally prone to run away from stress, but sometimes going through it works way better 😁
Music has ever been my go-to when trying to relax, I love new age, jazz, and classical, however I didn’t know ‘pillow scream session’ was a thing, I’ll like to try it out 😀. Thanks for the tips.
Music is definitely an essential for me as well, but the screaming thing actually works pretty well sometimes to get it out of your system!
Love this post. It has so many great suggestions for relaxing. My favourites are running, reading and taking a shower. Thank you for the tips and reminder.

They’re a great combination as well! Decreasing the physical stress by running and then reading a good book 👌🏻
This is the post I needed this week, I’ve been beyond stressed. You’re right about the cluttered space, I got up early today and tidied my room and it already feels like a must more relaxing space! I tend to let myself feel the stress by writing out how I feel or going a walk in the woods with some soothing music on!
Sounds like you’re off to a good start to decrease some of that stress! I hope you’ll feel better soon.
I like that you have a ‘Deal with it’ section – I find dealing with the stress always helps me ten times more than trying to get away from it. Great post x
Thank you! I was always thought that stressing is never helpful: you either can do something about it, and in that case: deal with it. The other things are only useful if there’s nothing to do about it!
I have found that when my room is messy it’s harder for me to work. It’s always a better environment for me to have my room clean when I am working. Awesome tips. Thanks for sharing.
It’s good to know things like this about yourself, it can really help you out to make an action plan for stressful times!
Love this post! I tend to play some sims , listen music or just work on my blog. Those definitely help me relax, great post!
Thank you! I love playing the sims as well, but I often won’t be able to stop once I start haha!
Great post with some really terrific self care ideas!
Thank you 😁
You’ve pretty much covered all basis here, great suggestions! I find playing videogames quite relaxing and it gets me out of my own head x
I’ve tried haha! It works super well for me also, since you need to focus on it, so there’s no room for other worries 😊
Some great suggestions here, Lisa. I love candles and cosy corners for cat cuddles and reading but what relaxes me most is time in our garden 🙂
I can imagine! There’s something about sitting outside that’s so calming, especially when there are animals as well 😁
Amazing post, it’s so important to take the time to relax whether that’s reading, watching TV or investing in a life coach – I loved this x
Thank you so much! I hope it inspires you when your usual ways don’t work 😊
